Dental Sealants In Holland, MI

Sealants are a common preventive treatment in dentistry for young children and teens. Newly erupted molars and premolars have fine pits and grooves that accumulate plaque. The grooves may be too deep and narrow to allow the bristles of a toothbrush to adequately clean them. When plaque accumulates in these pits and grooves, it can lead to tooth decay. To apply sealants, a resin material is brushed onto the tooth, filling these narrow grooves and preventing the cavity-causing buildup (see before and after image to the right). No drilling or damage to the tooth is observed.
